Great site guys.. There just is….Nothing..to not like about the South Australian outback. We’ve done it twice, and there just isn’t enough time to tell and show everyone how magnificent it is….
As is Tassie. My beautiful home state. From the “real” bottom of the south, to the Northern tip, there’s nothing to not like..

Have stayed in quite a few Hotels/Motels, when I was still in the workforce, and always looked forward to work [and leisure], trips into the Outback.There is no place on earth like it.The peace, tranquillity, out there, is so relaxing, especially in the cooler months.All of my/our Outback trips have been in South Australia, but we are working on fixing that when we are able to enjoy the rest of this great BIG beautiful country of ours.

Last year we went to the Flinders Ranges and Arkaroola which we absolutely loved and in exactly 25 days we leave for six weeks to venture up to the Red Centre, across the Plenty Highway and back down to Melbourne along the east coast. Can’t wait! Love your site. Any must do tips from you guys apart from the obvious?
Firstly, I love the Flinders Ranges! How good is Arkaroola.. and Wilpena Pound. We spent quite a bit of time there… did you camp or stay in lodges /hotels??? Gosh… six weeks is such a great amount of time to head off up the Centre! Who is going on the trip? How are you travelling etc? re your question on any must do’s, gosh… where do I start? Love to know who you are going with so I can get an idea on any ideas for you! Would love to share… we have been to the red centre quite a few times! Jen:)
Hi Jen, yes the Flinders is amazing. We camped at Rawnsley Park Station and then again at Arkaroola. The night skies there were amazing.
As for our Red Centre trip, I’m so excited. It’s just the three of us going, me my hubby and 16yo son. Our plan is to travel via Coober Pedy spending two nights there and making our way to Uluru. At this stage we plan on doing three nights at Uluru, two at Kings Canyon and about a week in the West Mac Ranges before cutting across on the Plenty highway. Two nights at Gentrree then leaving us just under three weeks to get home. What do you think?

Whilst we haven’t done the SA outback, we’re currently visiting Berri in the SA Riverland. There are wineries, distilleries & breweries to try out, the mighty Murray River to cruise or to fish from. Today we’ve travelled 2½hrs south to the Monarto Zoo where we have done a lap in their “hop on, hop off” bus & will shortly be going behind the scenes with the giraffes!
I am loving that you are on the road literally as we speak Graham – are you on a driving holiday? How long are you travelling for? P.s How did you go behind the scenes with the Giraffes? (sorry for all the questions, I am a curious fellow traveller!!) Jen:)
Inspirational and exciting. We are about to start the great Aussie adventure in our “new” 2nd hand caravan now that my husband has recovered sufficiently from a near-fatal car accident 2 years ago. Can’t wait to start in South Australia and experience first hand those amazing outback areas as we head westward and upwards.
Oh Joan, what a journey you have clearly been on. Bet this trip will be all the more impactful (and emotional perhaps when you have the window down and you’re in the SA outback with not another soul in sight thinking how lucky you are) – well done for making it happen.
