Over the last few months we have surveyed the nation! To help us put together our exciting new book Australia’s Top 100 Places to Go: The Ultimate Bucket List, we asked YOU what your favourite place to go in Australia was, and received thousands of ideas!
From all of the icons including Uluru, the Great Barrier Reef and Broome, we also unearthed some hidden treasures and it was wonderful to get even more of an insight into how many incredible places Australia has to offer.
One entry stood out to us as the winner, and lucky Juan Riquero from Sydney is our Bucket List winner! Juan will jet off with a friend to visit Kakadu National Park. With 7 nights accommodation thanks to Tourism Northern Territory, flights thanks to Webjet.com.au and an incredible experience cruising the magical Yellow Water Billabong thanks to Kakadu Tourism – Yellow Water Cruises, Juan will experience the very best of this magnificent region.
Congratulations Juan and thanks to everyone for entering!
Juan’s Entry on Kakadu National Park:
“This is definitely a location which should be on peoples bucket list. 240km from Darwin, it’s Australia’s largest national park, cared for by Bininj Mungguy tribe for over 50,000 years. It holds a third of Australia’s birdlife making it one ultimate birdwatching experience and let’s not forget its animal and plant life. The scenery is spectacular with waterfalls and tropical forest. I’ve seen this beautiful part of the world on numerous programs but it’s time to see it live.”
– Juan Riquero, Sydney, NSW
Other entries we LOVED….
“We stood rugged up against the unexpected chill of late summer evening, eyes cast upwards to the dimming light of dusk. And we waited…
At first only a couple, whirring overhead, then plummeting with a thud to the beach below. More arrived, dozens, then hundreds soon answered the cry. The air was soon thick with thousands of Shearwaters wheeling overhead, their calls drowning out the rhythmic crash of waves. Our Bruny Island Tasmanian adventure had only just begun…”
– Margaret Seaberg, Caringbah South, NSW
“Both I and my husband love nature, we love Australia and would like to see more of this beautiful country. We came from Afghanistan as refugees and we both worked hard but sometimes it is difficult to save enough money to see this beautiful place we called home.
So far we have been to Sydney and Melbourne and it is our dream to travel around Australia in the future. My first plan to see Tasmania followed by Alice springs and Darwin.
We love nature and nature is everything especially if you live in a peaceful country like Australia.”
– A. Panahi, Rostrevor, SA
“The Gold Coast is sunshine,
Beaches, the sea.
Sweet smell of honey,
Defines it for me.I love that it’s timeless.
Day upon day.
Spent chasing frisbees,
Or surfing the waves.Cocktails at sunset,
Ocean still hot.
Bbq dinners,
Hitting the spot.An ice cold Mojito,
Made with lime, mint, and ice.
Topped up with Vodka,
Boy it tastes nice!Bikinis and bathers,
That’s all that we need.
Summers spent blissfully,
On the GC!”– T. Kirk, Cranbourne, VIC

J. Scarlett, Lindisfarne, TAS SHOULD HAVE WON WHAT A GREAT AD FOR TASMANIA

Hi Judith, Tassie is definitely one of our favourite places in Australia. When the book comes out you will see we have featured Tassie heavily in the list – it has so many treasures! There was no one clear winner (the list wasn’t ranked) so in our eyes, all states including Tassie are winners. Our favourite entry just happened to be Kakadu. Thanks so much for your vote! Emma PWG

I don’t think you gave enough consideration to my entry!
I realize it was different (very), but Carcor NSW is a magical place.
It is the best preserved historical town in Australia, bar none.

Hi James, thanks so much for your entry. Unfortunately we had thousands and we also had to go by what we know – we have never been to Carcor, but it sounds fantastic and we will have to add it to our list to visit! Thanks for letting us know about it! Cheers, Emma PWG

The best place in Australia definitely has to be Noosa. We love to visit Noosa, walk in the Noosa National Park, east at Bistro C restaurant on main beach, walk along the beautiful Noosaville river at Gympie Terrace at Noosaville and watch the sun set from Mount Timbeerwah. Awesome and by far the best holiday spot in the world.
