Spotlight: Spirit of Tasmania Onboard Entertainment

Places We Go Team | August 17, 2019 | 5:21 am | Comment

A sailing to or from Tasmania on board Spirit of Tasmania is not just a means to an end. It is an experience in itself! We are huge fans of making ‘getting there’ part of our overall journey which is why we choose to sail whenever we can. The minute you step on board, the ‘Tasmanian’ experience comes to you through all the Spirit of Tasmania Onboard Entertainment and there is no shortage of ways to keep ourselves busy during the sailing!

Kids Entertainment

As many parents know, keeping the kids entertained on any journey is the number one priority. Happy kids = Happy family, right?

Enjoying the outdoor decks!

Thankfully the kids love Spirt of Tasmania as much as we do. First things first, this is a ship! Wandering the outdoor decks with the sea breeze in your face and views of the ocean are an adventure for any kid – and the fact that you can wander about and not have to keep them strapped into a seat is one of the best things of all.

Inside the ship, there are also plenty of ways to keep them busy.

Kids play zone

There is an incredible Kids Play Area – so good that you will have difficulty getting them to come out! This area is perfect for our little Harry, and the Game Zone for slightly older kids keeps our Charli busy too!

The Pantry store

And we have a pretty good trick for getting them to join us again…. We stock up on treats from The Pantry and take them into the cinema for one of the latest flicks – the perfect way to spend some time on a day or night sailing.

There is something for everyone…

Tassie-inspired dishes in TMK

Everyone gets hungry on board and one of the things we look forward to on a sailing is eating some of the Tassie produce that the ships five dining options offer! TMK (Tasmanian Market Kitchen) is spot on for an easy meal where you can serve yourself fresh and delicious Tasmanian-inspired dishes.

Cheers to Tassie wine

And can you name a better bar or lounge than one which specialises in Tasmanian wine, craft beer and cider? Nope, didn’t think so. So for adults, hitting on of their bars is the perfect way to relax and enjoy some of the live entertainment and music on board featuring proud Tasmanian talent.

Let’s talk about WiFi…

These days, WiFi is hard to live without and for many different reasons, so many of us need it even at sea! We often have work to catch up on, and the kids like to stream, so having WiFi available to purchase on board is an excellent option.

And there is plenty more!

You would be hard-pressed to get bored on a Spirit of Tasmania journey. There is also a Tourism Hub so you can sit and plan the adventure ahead, a quiet Reading Room to escape with a book or magazine, and all kinds of events and exhibits. Such as….

……the Collective Nouns Wall. You may have heard of the beautifully illustrated book ‘101 Collective Nouns’ by Tasmanian artist and writer Jennifer Cossins.

Her book is not only available to purchase in The Pantry but is also featured on board Spirit of Tasmania as wallpaper in the Kids Play Area. Jennifer herself often travels on board, talking about collective nouns, answering questions and, signing copies of her book for passengers!

You simply never know what might be happening on board in addition to all the regular entertainment and all we have to say is that you have to experience it for yourself!

Where would you spend your time on board Spirit of Tasmania? Tell us in the comments!
