10 AUSTRALIAN IMAGES THAT INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK ON INSTAGRAM

Tom Carr | December 12, 2015 | 2:10 am | 1 Comment

Australia is one of the most diverse countries in the world. So much of our land is uninhabited which makes for breathtaking photography – but for me it’s not just the visual captures I am drawn to but, the way in which these images make me feel when I see them. I have brought together a collection of Australian images that inspired me on Instagram this week – there’s no rhyme or reason, no particular destination in mind – just places, or moments that caught my attention and took me back to a place…

Australian Inspiration at its finest. Explore, dream and discover…

1. Yallingup, Western Australia

The beauty of the sky is that which caught my eye

  2. Lone Gum Tree, Barossa Valley, South Australia I am drawn to the remoteness of this photograph. It accurately captures the vastness of our nation and the sense of freedom that is omnipresent.

3. The Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Victoria

Showing resilience against the often unpredictable and harsh weather conditions of the Australian coast. I love the way in which the rocky cliffs appear to glow as a result of the drifting sun.

Sunset at the Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Victoria. I had almost written off getting a good sunset at this location. It had been rainy, windy, and grey all day. I felt defeated. I decided to catch up on sleep instead of going out for sunset as I was tired from the tight schedule I was on. Whilst I was sitting in my room at the hotel I could see the cloud had cleared and some colour was coming through. I had to rush back quickly and took this shot as I went down the steps to the viewing platform. It just goes to show that you never really know if the magic hours will turn it on for you or not. Also having accommodation really close to the location helps a lot too!

  4. “The Bench”, Gibb River Road, Western Australia Look at the way the cloud appears to dance above the formations below – the peace before the storm

Taken from ‘The Bench’ on the Gibb River road, storms were developing all over the place. The view from The Bench is already incredible, throw in a decaying storm, and it was pretty close to perfect. #thekimberleyaustralia #thisisWA #earthpix #exploreaustralia #amazing_australia #amazing_wa #storm #WesternAustralia #special_shots #amazing #alalamiya #bella_shotz #instagramhub #igsuper_shotz #travel #landscape_lovers #xploration_nation #canon_official #canon #canonaustralia #ausfeels #australiagram #westisbest #globecaptures #cloudporn #cloud #skyporn #australia_inscountries A photo posted by jcantelo (@jcantelo) on Dec 1, 2015 at 8:29am PST

5. Cape Schank, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

When you’re waiting for the stars to come out…

Every now and then I post a sunset shot here.. Here’s one I posted on @lightpixels a while ago that I took while waiting for the stars to come out at Cape Schanck. Have a splendid Sunday evening and thanks for all the love from the last post, I’ll get back to you! ? Canon EOS 6D // 24mm f1.4 // Lee Filters Big Stopper ?   6. Shire of Corrigin, Western Australia An imposing force of structure, power and hidden agenda…

An eventful night deep in the Wheatbelt. Structure and lightning was just amazing. #thisisWA #storm #lightning #sunset #perthisok #landscape #epic_captures #bella_shots #ig_exquisite #bestoftheday #australiagram #canonaustralia #amazing_australia #special_shots #amazing_visuals #weatherchannel #weather #thunderstorm #skymaster_family #natgeo #natgeolandscape #exploringaustralia #main_vision A photo posted by jcantelo (@jcantelo) on Nov 16, 2015 at 11:31pm PST

7. Baltzer lookout, Blackheath, NSW

There’s something about the Blue Mountains that gives me goose bumps – perhaps it’s their dramatic yet elegant nature or the way in which you feel protected beneath their watchful gaze

• Emerge • Baltzer Lookout in Blackheath. Waiting for the sun to peek around but it didn’t happen ? A @leefilters Big Stopper might have come in handy here as the clouds were moving quickly! Maybe next time?! ————————————————– Canon 60D with 10-22mm f3.5-5.6 ————————————————– #canonaustralia#lifeboxfeature#jj#natureaddict#naturewhisperers#allshots_#hot_shotz#epic_captures#exploreaustralia#exploringtheglobe#lazyshutters#longexposure#longexposhots#longexposurestylesgf#FocusAustralia#amazing_australia#bluemtsaus#bluemountains#blackheath#livethecapture#xploration_nation#sunrise#ExploringTheGlobeBucketList#ig_australia#keepitwild#NewSouthWales#longexpoelite#jj_nosquares#AustraliasLight

  8. Mount Hotham, Victoria I am drawn to the peaceful nature of the capture, not a sound could be heard, not a person in sight

I was really happy with this shot, made standing in the cold worth it. #mounthotham #mountain #astrophotography #a7rii #sonya7rii #sonyimages #sonyalpha #sonyaustralia #sigma #sigma35mm #astro #longexposure #stars #snow #photooftheday #insta_sky_lovers #snowboarding #ski A photo posted by Daniel Baden (@badendaniel) on Sep 22, 2015 at 7:00am PDT

9. Whitsundays, Queensland

The vibrancy of the colour is captivating. You can imagine, without actually being there, exactly how it would be….

The feeling of soft sand between your toes; the warmth of the sun, cooling affect of the water – no sign of another human being for miles…

Where else would you find such a place? Australia

Beach of my dreams here in the Whitsundays ????✌?️? what a paradise!

  10. Royal National Park, South of Sydney, NSW Takes me back to my childhood when I would play in the rock pools of my local beach, seeking little crabs and trying to catch fish

Nice to be able to share some old favourite images in their original aspect ratio on Instagram now. This is Figure of 8 Pool in Royal National Park, south of Sydney. A photo posted by Luke Tscharke | Australia (@tscharke) on Sep 4, 2015 at 3:15pm PDT

I was lucky enough explore regional Victoria earli I was lucky enough explore regional Victoria earlier in the year (between lockdowns!), and tour the Goldfields with @big4holidayparks – Sure, I got my much-needed fix of the outdoors and was able to feed my insatiable curiosity as I explored the regions utterly fascinating history & culture, but it was sitting up at the old bar of family run Munari wines, just outside of Heathcote that got me.
.
Chatting to the chief winemaker Adrian Munari, and his daughter India (over a lovely red, of course) I heard all about the historic sheep station that was established in 1871, and life on the property today. (I wonder how the farmers endured the pandemic in 1919?)

Here’s to a happy summer holiday for us all, of enjoying those ‘moments’, wherever we are.

Armidale is a community where we all band together, we’re very passionate about our backyard, and we hope it shows.. and we certainly hope people come and see what it’s like. We’ve got a unique view of part of the world that not many people get to see.
